Company formation in Austria: the essentials

Austria attracts international founders with a stable economy, a central position in Europe and a dependable legal framework. The most common corporate form is the Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung (GmbH), which requires share capital of €35,000, of which at least €17,500 must be paid in cash. For smaller ventures, the Unternehmergesellschaft (UG) can be incorporated with share capital starting at €1.

Incorporation is carried out through a notary public, who drafts the articles of association, files the application for entry in the commercial register (Firmenbuch) and accompanies the opening process.
